This week we have been speaking about identity. Abraham's journey of faith included finding a new identity in God. It was bigger than his family, upbringing and environment he was raised in. We all need to find our true identity in Jesus and what He says about us so that we become secure, stable and solid in who we are in Christ.
Everybody has a name and a reputation, these can be sharped by our family, upbringing or events in our lives. God gave Abraham a new name that meant "Father of a Multitude" to give him a new sense of identity and purpose. God wants to give you a new name and identity that is linked to His purpose for your life too - and it's all found in the New Testament Bible!!
All of us have an interval view or belief of who we are. In this interval narrative or belief about ourselves is often shaped by our childhood and early experiences. Regardless of how you view yourself now, God wants to rebuild and re shape your identity based on His love and purposes for your life so that your identity is based upon Him not ourselves!
